I’ve been really loving the kimono trend lately and I wanted to share the latest one I picked up because it’s THAT good.
What I love about kimonos is that they are the warm-weather equivalent of a cardigan: they look chic and they keep you covered, just without the added warmth of a heavy sweater. It’s amazing how they add interest to a basic tee shirt. This is why they are the perfect transitional piece for fall!
Although kimonos became a hot item during the spring/summer season (you might remember this post), they are back for fall but this time with pretty, burnout velvet details that give them rich pigments and a soft texture.
This one in particular has become my favorite because of it’s beautiful floral print, mid-thigh length, and elbow-sleeves. It also comes in 2 other colors, both in gorgeous fall hues, and is priced at under $50.
I styled this kimono for a weekend look with my current favorite in distressed denim and gray booties (both under $100), but it will certainly be on rotation during the work week as well. It’s going to look so pretty styled over a solid sheath dress with heels!

Speaking of which, I’m heading back to work today, after a fun-filled summer, for a superintendent’s conference day. I know that some of you in other parts of the US have already started school, but in NY, kids don’t start until after Labor Day. Many teachers head back just before the long weekend to set up our classrooms and attend meetings.
It’s a bitter sweet time: I’m really excited for the new school year and look forward to meeting my new batch of students, but I’m also sad that I wont have as much time with my own little ones once the school year begins.
Next week, my oldest will be starting kindergarten. So many moms have a tough time with this transition. What tips do you have for getting through it? Let me know in the comments below. I’d love to hear from you!
