Hi, everyone! Today, I’d like to share an HONEST review of LipSense lipcolor with you.
For those who are not familiar with LipSense products, they are “the original long-lasting lip color”. According to their website, their lip color is “waterproof, [and] does not kiss-off, smear-off, rub-off or budge-off”.
I have seen LipSense products on other people (mostly in pictures), but this is the first time I have ever tried them for myself, so I can truly give you an honest perspective, based on my experience.
I feel that I should point out that I do not personally know anyone who sells LipSense; I was contacted by a distributor on Instagram, and after some careful consideration (and after watching several Youtube videos on the product), I decided to purchase a color and Glossy Gloss for myself. This review is intended to explain what I really think of the product, without any strings attached.
Why I Decided to Try LipSense
I will tell you that I wanted to like this product from the start because I am a very low-maintenance makeup wearer and not having to re-apply lipcolor sounds like a dream come true.
Typically, I wear lip-gloss, but I have secretly envied those who wear pretty lip colors. I just know that as a teacher, I’d never be able to keep up with the reapplication of traditional lipsticks because in my free moments, lip color is definitely not the first thing on my mind (amIright?). But, a lip product that wont budge is something I had to try out for myself!
I was skeptical, yet curious, and I wondered whether the product would live up to its promises.
LipSense Liquid Lip Color is currently listed for $25 USD and the Glossy Gloss is an additional $20 USD. Since the two need to be used together, it’s a pretty hefty price for a lip color.
The good news is that if you love it, you can add more lip colors to your collection and still use the original gloss.
LipSense comes in 36 shades, so there is likely something for everyone. The brand has put out color swatches that help potential customers determine what each lip color might look like on their skin tone.
The colors have been known to layer easily, so custom palettes can be created. Creating your own effects might be half the fun of owning LipSense products!
There are also a variety of glosses available to use with your lip color, including glossy, matte, shimmer, and pearl options. Each has a different effect to customize your look.
Of all aspects of this product, this is the one that disturbed me the most. I have potentially the worst sense of smell of anyone I know, but when I apply a product right under my nose, the scent is hard to miss.
To me, LipSense smells like insect repellent, which is a little disconcerting, considering you are applying it to your mouth. From what I understand, there is alcohol in the lip color that helps to exfoliate your lips of dry skin and wax residue. It’s a little off-putting at the first application, but becomes less concerning after a few uses, once you realize that the condition of your lips is actually improving over time. More on that below.
You’ve likely applied lip color many times before, but probably not the way LipSense recommends. Be sure to watch a YouTube video before applying this product because there is a definite learning curve.
- Stretch your lips into an awkwardly large smile.
- Apply thin coats in ONE direction.
- Let each dry for at least 15 seconds (not the 5 seconds the product directions recommend).
- Use 3 coats for good coverage and longevity.
- Apply Glossy Gloss to keep the color fresh and your lips hydrated
There are MANY videos of people applying LipSense, so if you need a good laugh, check ’em out! Then realize, this is exactly what you will look like should you decide to try LipSense for yourself!
LipSense really stays on! Even after the Glossy Gloss wears off, the color remains. Think of it as a richer lip stain. I will tell you that I have actually woken up in the morning with my LipSense color still in tact. Yep. It’s that long-lasting.
The product directions recommend that you apply the Glossy Gloss continually throughout the day to keep the color in-tact and your lips looking beautiful. I even apply it BEFORE eating to ensure that I wont wipe the color off on my napkin.
Since gloss is clear and so effortless to apply, it’s something I don’t mind keeping up with.
The LipSense website states that LipSense lip color lasts 4 -18 hours!
How to Remove LipSense
Even though it doesn’t kiss off or smear off, LipSense is removable. I simply wet a washcloth and rub until the color is gone. Easy-peasy.
*There is also an Oops! remover product available, but I’ve read reviews that it’s not necessary, so I haven’t tried it.
After 2 Weeks
When this product crossed my Instagram DM, I was intrigued and hopeful. But I did not expect that my lips would actually IMPROVE from wearing it.
I was not so keen on the alcohol ingredient, and I was very judgmental that I had to use a separate gloss to re-hydrate because the alcohol would exfoliate and dry out my lips. But let me tell you: this combo works.
I have been battling two dry spots on my lips for over a year. I use lip moisturizers daily and I haven’t been able to get rid of them. Not to mention I talk in-cess-ant-ly, so it doesn’t help my dry lips.
After two weeks of using LipSense, my dry patches are completely gone and my lips are totally smooth. I heard about this product’s restoring potential, but I was a non-believer until I saw it for myself.
The Bottom Line
I would recommend this product to anyone who:
- desires long-lasting lip color
- likes the look of gloss (matte glosses and sparkle glosses are also available)
- enjoys blending colors together to create a custom look
- needs to exfoliate their lips without the raw feeling that most exfolients provide
LipSense is sold by independent distributors (likely, your neighbor or friend), but if you don’t know anyone who sells it, you can always contact @BloomBeautyLipCo on Instagram (she is the distributor who contacted me about the products, so I’d like to give her a plug!).
Just to reiterate, I do not sell or receive compensation from the SeneGence company or any LipSense distributors. All opinions in this post are entirely my own (as always).
