Jewel tones are immensely popular because they are flattering on all skin tones. While other colors might make you appear washed-out, jewel tones play up your best features: your eyes, hair and complexion. Plus the wide range of color options leaves something for everyone.
Jewel Tones in Spring
I know what you’re thinking. When the weather gets warmer, light colors abound (you can read about how I styled Blush Pink, here). So, how do I wear color-rich jewel tones in the Spring, without looking like I’m dressing for cooler temperatures?
Just because the temperatures are rising doesn’t mean you have to tuck your most flattering shades in the back of your closet. As a matter of fact, many of my favorite wardrobe items are jewel-toned, so I want to get the most wear out of them. I mean, I spent more because they look great; why wouldn’t I keep them in my rotation?
The difference between wearing these items in Spring as opposed to Fall is that you need to style them differently.
The key to sporting jewel tones in Spring is to add interesting features that soften the look: pastel accessories, light-weight fabrics, faded or cropped denim, open-toe or perforated shoes and the warm-weather classic color: white.
That means that your sapphire cardi, chartreuse blouse, or smoky quartz pants can still get exceptional use this season; just pair them accordingly.
Emerald, for Example
Today, I’m styling a green top that will be a perfect addition to your Spring wardrobe because of it’s 3/4 length sleeves, it’s beautifully textured stitching, and it’s flattering cut that narrows the waist. I also love that it has a zipper detail in the back–any shirt that has added interest in the back gets a gold star in my book!
Here I’ve styled this top with distressed denim, blush and gold accessories, and tan open-toe sandals that I plan to wear all-Spring-long. You can find links for each item below the pictures and in a shopping widget at end of the post.

This top also looks great with white denim. I paired it with pearl accessories to make the white pop and give it a real Spring feel (plus, you can never go wrong with pearls!). I definitely don’t follow the white only after Memorial Day rule. If the jeans fit, wear them!
